Wheeling Health Right Chef's Auction set a record this year

WHEELING - Wheeling Health Right, the second largest free clinic in the United States, had one of its most successful fundraisers ever this year.

The Chef's Auction on May 3, raised $80,000 -- $25,000 more than last year's event.

Officials said their state budget allocation will be cut by $69,000 this year because of health care overhaul.  Wheeling Health Right officials say the organization sees the highest volume of patients in the country. Even though health care reform is taking place, they assert the need for free health care clinics will exist.

On Friday, the organization announced its winners of the 2013 awards program for the Chef's Auction.  The overall People's Choice Award went to Stratford Springs Steak and Seafood.  Other restaurant awards were grouped by Fine, Casual Dining and Speciality.

Under Fine Dining, the Best Food and Best Appetizer awards were given to Parkhurst Dining Services.  Best Presentation and Best Dessert went to Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack.  Stratford Springs won for Best Decoration.

The Best Food award in casual dining was given to Camelot.  Best Presentation went to Ye Olde Alpha. Best decoration was Ruttenbuck's Grill.  Best Appetizer was a tie between Quaker Steak and Lube and Ye Olde Alpha. Best Dessert went to Mehlman's Cafeteria.

In speciality dining, Centre Market Bakery won Best Food and Best Presentation. Wheeling Coffee & Spice was awarded Best Decoration.  Kirke's Homemade Ice Cream of St. Clairsville  took home the best dessert award.

WTRF was again proud to sponsor this year's event.
