In a move designed to more strongly promote student-athlete welfare and enhance the student-athlete experience, the Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA) Department of Athletics and Parkhurst Dining have teamed up to develop and debut a “Student-Athlete Nutritional Gameplan” on the Woodland Road campus.

The Nutritional Gameplan is a joint venture between Chatham Athletics and Parkhurst Dining, the university’s on-campus food services provider. Identified by its purple Cougar Head logo and word mark, the plan is designed to assist Cougar student-athletes with making healthy nutritional choices each time they visit one of Chatham’s three dining facilities, including full-service Anderson Hall. Menu options qualifying for the Nutritional Gameplan vary with each meal and are selected with the unique caloric, physiological and exertion replacement needs of a female student-athlete in mind.

Prior to implementation, Athletics and Parkhurst Dining consulted with Leslie Bonci of UPMC Sports Medicine, widely regarded as the region’s foremost expert in sports nutrition. Chatham this summer became the newest client of Bonci, who oversees nutritional programs for multiple collegiate and professional programs in Pittsburgh and beyond.“Simply put, the Student-Athlete Nutritional Gameplan is a win-win,” said Director of Athletics Scott Koskoski. “It was important to me that we develop and install such a program at Chatham as part of our new championship-minded, success-driven culture. We’re very grateful to General Manager Leslie Ekstrand and her team of Parkhurst Dining associates on campus for their enthusiasm. It’s also wonderful to rely on the expertise of Leslie Bonci. The Nutritional Gameplan helps our student-athletes fuel for success and provides yet another advantage of being a Cougar student-athlete.”

“Parkhurst is really excited to be part of the ‘Nutritional Gameplan’ at Chatham University,” said Ekstrand. “While providing healthy options for student-athletes, we are also seeing other students make better choices. The simplicity of using our new brand logo on our daily menus makes it a easy for everyone to know what is on the Gameplan for that meal.”In addition to on-campus dining, Chatham teams can take advantage of the Nutritional Gameplan via working with Parkhurst Dining for meals while on road trips, special occasions, etc.
