LATROBE, Pa. -- Each year, Saint Vincent College in Latrobe hosts Steelers training camp, and each year the players consume thousands of pounds of food.

Going through grueling workouts in the heat, experts said a player can easily burn 5,000 calories. Chef Rick Laski has kept the team fueled over the last decade and said the Steelers food requests have changed over the years.

"They eat a lot healthier. They're more conscious about nutrition and balanced eating," said Laski.

While the meals may be healthier, the amount of food the Steelers consume is still staggering. According to Laski, the players eat 1,600 pounds of beef, chicken and fish, 1,000 pizzas, 800 pounds of wings and 1,800 pounds of fruits and vegetables.

The chef said he grills as much as possible and goes through 3,000 pounds of charcoal.

Organizers said even though there was uncertainty about camp because of the NFL lockout, the kitchen staff got ready for training camp as if there was never a lockout to begin with.

"Myself, personally…, I really felt that they'd be here. I never thought that it wouldn't happen," said general manager Reggie Esmi.

The Steelers get three meals a day plus a late-night snack.
